COACH'S CORNER

BOLAND CROWNED CHAMPIONS

The Boland Cavaliers won the 2011 ABSA Currie Cup First Division, by convincingly beating the EP Kings in Wellington on Friday 43-12. Congratulations must go to coach Eugene Eloff and his team, who competed against a team with vastly superior resources and beat them twice in a matter of three weeks.

EAGLES LOSE OUT ON SEMI-FINAL SPOT

The SWD Eagles lost 24-53  (halftime 17-22) to the Boland Cavaliers on Friday, to lose out on qualification for the semi-finals in the First Division. Despite the score, which flatters the Cavaliers, the Eagles played well and scored 3 well worked tries by Wilhelm Koch, Braam Immelman and Mzo Dyanti. The injury curse continued to torment the Eagles, with star fullback Elric van Vuuren leaving the field in the first half with a leg injury.
Ultimately the number of injuries sustained during the season were just too severe for the Eagles to overcome. A number of young and club players however came to the fore and showed that the future is bright in the SWD.
An announcement will also be made soon on a number of new signings for the 2012 season, which will further significantly strengthen the squad for next season.
